We at Satellites Unlimited, Inc. (SUI) are proud that we employ over 100 US military veterans. We have employees who have served in the military at every level of our company. This Veterans Day, we’d like to extend our gratitude to all the men and women who have served our country.
We also want to recognize our veterans and introduce you to a few of our heroes here at SUI.
RODNEY HAZELWOOD—Satellite Technician
Rodney Hazelwood, a Satellite Technician out of our Mobile Office, started with the US Navy in 1991. “I really enjoyed my time with the military. Serving my country made me a better person. It gave me a stronger work ethic. It means a lot to serve your country, and I wouldn’t change a thing.”
STACY SMITH—Customer Service Representative
“The military quickly became family to me,” says Stacy Smith, the Customer Service Representative in our Tupelo Office. “You get to know those in your barracks and you get so close with them. They were like sisters. It becomes hard to say goodbye. People get discharged, and you don’t know if you’ll see them again. You’re not sure where they’re going next. But I’ve been able to keep up with a few old friends, and my time with the Air Force meant so much to me.”
RODDY McKINNEY—Founder, Satellites Unlimited, Inc.
Roddy McKinney, our founder, is a Vietnam Era veteran. “I joined the US Air Force in January of 1962. I served in Texas in basic training, and I went to the Philippines for two years. Back in those days, you had no communication home unless you wrote letters. No telephone calls. No TV. After the Phillipines, I was in a Communications Outfit. I spent 4 years with the same 4 men all over the world, and we’ve been close for 53 years. We’re lifelong friends.”
Roddy describes his experience with the military as life-changing. “It helped me develop mentally, physically, spiritually, and culturally. It’s very humbling, and it allows you to really appreciate your nation. I was proud to serve and would gladly do it again.”
We’re proud to have military veterans among our team members, and we sincerely appreciate their service, experience, and presence in our offices and in the field each day. We’re hopeful more military veterans will consider careers with SUI. To all of our SUI heroes and to all who have served our country, we say thank you. Happy Veterans Day!
